How do you clean a silk comforter?

By raysmithtx · Monday, August 23rd, 2010

I have a silk comforter made with silk batting that I’d like to wash. Is it okay to wash in the washer/dryer? Or does this take special cleaning methods?

I bought comforter/duvet in China on a trip there. Instructions were included but they were in Chinese!

I wouldn’t take a chance on washing it. Take it to a dry cleaners.

You dont. You take it to a dry cleaner and ask them so someone on the internet that you don’t even know tells you to wash it with bleach and coke and mentos. And you belive them.

Do NOT put it in the washer, period!!!! Take it to the dry cleaners to properly clean it or it will come a part and deteriorate. You will be very disappointed if you wash it

As others have mentioned, you should absolutely dry clean it, or have it professionally “wet cleaned.” Although you can machine or hand-wash many silk items in water, the silk floss used as batting in your comforter is not designed for machine washing.
