Can you shrink a shirt that is made of RAYON fabric?

By raysmithtx · Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I am ordering a shirt online from the UK and it is a size 10/12 and I am a size Small/0 in the US, so im not sure if it will be too big. It says it is made out of rayon fabric, so I was wanting to know if it is possible to shrink it if it is too big?

Its possible to but it ruins the fabric. Its a really sensitive fabric and will lose its look.

In a textile class, I learned that Rayon will shrink every time you put it in the dryer (esp. 100% rayon) – which is why you shouldn’t normally put it in the dryer. So you should be able to shrink it!

Also- a size 10/12 in the UK is a small/medium.

Yes, I’d imagine it will be too big. If you are a size 0, then I would order a size 6 from the UK. But in case you are unsure, here are some typical measurements for UK sizes:

Size 4: 30.5-23-32.5
Size 6: 31.5-24-33.5
Size 8: 32.5-25-34.5
Size 10: 34.5-27-36.5
Size 12: 36.5-29-38.5
