Where can I find seamstress/tailor’s tape printed fabric?

By raysmithtx · Monday, August 23rd, 2010

I once saw a picture of somebody’s finished patchwork sewing project, and they had a yellow strip of fabric that was printed as a seamstress tape measure. Obviously it’s a novelty fabric. I’ve Googled my butt off but I can’t find anywhere online that sells it, and I’ve kept an eye out in person at fabric stores too! Does anybody know where I can get some of this?
I’m not planning on copying the person’s project. I just want a similar fabric.

no just be creative and do it your way.

Im a artist and every artist has is or her own style

like say if i were to paint a v.v stary night im not gonna do/try to copy what he did i would use my own style

but to answer your question i dont know unless you are rich and can afford to hire your own clothing designers and semstresses

Hello,

I am a seamstress and I know exactly what you are looking for, I do believe. It is not a fabric, but a ribbon. It is yellow and printed with tape measure increments in black. You can buy it by the roll at JoAnn Fabrics. I have seen it in their stores and do not know if it is available on line. If they no longer carry it, you can try to google ribbon suppliers and I am sure you will find it there.

Good Luck.

Offray Ribbon makes the tape measure ribbon. It’s called Measure Up and the catlogue number for the ten yard spool is 13-1431 and the 100 yard spool is 13-1436. Offray Ribbons are available at most fabric stores including Joanne’s or you can look on the Offray Berwick website for a place that sells them retail found on this page: http://www.offray.com/prod.html The ribbon itself is on page 49 of the digital wholesale catlogue: http://berwickoffray.digicatalog.com/

Check with your local quilt shop…Loralie Designs had 100% cotton measuring tape fabric. The one I have has a black background & yellow swirly, semi-rolled tape print. My other Loralie Designs fabrics have Quilting Treasures and http://www.quiltingtreasures.com printed on the selvage. I’m sorry, but I do not have the design number of the measuring tape.

If you call a quilt shop, you should be able to simply ask for “measuring tape printed fabric”. I’ve been known to walk in and ask for chocolate chip cookies, or the buff guys and people knew exactly what I meant. I also have ruler fabric with red, green, blue, beige, and yellow rulers. It is a Timeless Treasures Fabrics, Pattern #GAIL-C 5525.

fieldstonehousefabrics.com is a great site and if you are lucky enough to be near Sidney Center, New York, it is the most fabulous quilting store I have ever seen! literally thousands and thousands of fabrics. Only a small fraction of their stock is listed on their site. You should be able to e-mail them to ask if they have the measuring tape.
