What is the difference between chiffon cake and regular cake?

By raysmithtx · Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

I am making a Christmas cake to take to my grandmas on boxing day.
I wanted to make four layers of alternating chocolate and white chocolate cake.

I found two recipes for white chocolate cake a chiffon cake and regular cake. The chiffon cake has egg whites and the regular cake has more butter.
Which one should I make? Which one will go better with dark chocolate cake?

It all depends on what you like in your cake… the Chiffon cake will be made differently and it’ll be more light and airy than just your regular chocolate cake. Personally, I’d go with the Chiffon cake, it takes more effort, but in the end you’ll be happier with the result because of the work you put into it. :) Hope you like it!

I love chiffon cake but to go with the chocolate cake I would use the other one…the butter cake. The textures will be the same that way. A chiffon cake has a spongy texture and the chocolate cake will have a more velvety crumb texture. I think it would be rather confusing to the palate to combine two different textures. Also, the two different types of cake (butter and chiffon) would slice differently when serving.
